Introducing the SMART Trailer

Introducing the SMART Trailer

Unexpected trailer downtime can disrupt deliveries, strain schedules and add to operating costs. We developed the SMART Trailer Package to help operators manage their tipping trailer as a connected asset, with better access to information about its condition and performance.

Bringing together connectivity, preventative maintenance and features that support safer operation, SMART helps operators identify developing issues earlier and make more informed decisions.

A clearer view of your trailer

We developed SMART with established technology partners including Haldex, SAF-Holland, Axscend, VPG and Aspoeck. Working closely with suppliers has helped us understand how the individual systems could work together within a Weightlifter Tipping Trailer.

At the centre of the SMART Trailer package is Axscend TrailerMaster, a trailer telematics platform that brings information from multiple onboard systems into a single interface. Operators can check trailer location, access journey information and review braking performance, helping them understand how their trailers perform whilst in use.

By tracking the trailer, monitoring EBS faults and reviewing tyre pressures and load information, operators can identify changes that need attention before they lead to a breakdown. This supports a more preventative approach to maintenance, helping reduce avoidable downtime and the disruption it causes.

A key benefit is the Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS), which can reduce scheduled laden roller brake tests from four to one per year, provided sufficient braking performance evidence is available to meet DVSA guidance. The annual MOT brake test remains, and additional testing may still be needed. Fewer separate testing appointments can mean lower testing costs, less time spent travelling and more time with your trailer available for work.

SMART also brings together features to support safer loading, manoeuvring and tipping. The VPG weighing system provides load information via Wi-Fi connectivity, while the body-mounted inclinometer helps the driver monitor the trailer body’s angle during tipping. The reverse camera supports visibility when manoeuvring, while the auto-opening rear door and air-operated locking bar reduce the need for the driver to leave the cab during tipping.

Available on new Weightlifter builds

When operating costs are putting pressure on margins, an unexpected repair or trailer off the road is the last thing your business needs. Having better information about your trailer’s performance can help you plan, manage costs and keep work moving.

While SMART does not remove the need for routine checks, maintenance or repairs, it will give operators more information to act on, helping you plan work and reduce unexpected downtime.

Whether you’re running aggregate trailers or bulkers, the SMART Trailer Package is available across the Weightlifter tipping trailer range, giving you greater visibility of your trailer’s performance.

When discussing your next build, our sales team can explain how the package works and how it can fit your operation.
