Weightlifter is one of the UK’s premier tipper manufacturers, whose origins date back to the 1930’s when J B Weightman started making wooden vehicle bodies, serving the needs of the local agricultural and construction industries.
Today owned by Grange Cross Ltd after Paul Weightman's retirement in 2019, it has grown through acquisition, innovation and a broadening of its customer base along with the introduction of new manufacturing techniques and product development.
In 1971 Weightlifter introduced its first alloy tipper and ten years later it was producing complete tipping trailers.
Further innovations followed: in the early 1990s Weightlifter became the first company to introduce tipping trailers with hollow alloy interlocking plank sides.
This innovation continues today with Weightlifter embracing new materials, such as Enduarl alloy, Hardox and Domex steels which have impact and wear resistant properties and reduce the weight of its bodies without sacrificing any strength.
Over the years the Weightlifter chassis has become a bench mark for lightweight, durability and reliability within the industry.
The acquisition of PPG Fabrications added a new dimension to the company’s skills portfolio. Well known for the excellence of its welding, PPG is acknowledged as the industry’s leaders when it comes to rigid bodies.
Fiercely proud of its British manufacturing heritage, Weightlifter continues to manufacture its products in the UK, sourcing only the best quality materials and components and using fully skilled and highly trained craftsmen who take a pride in their workmanship.
Its fabricators are all certified to the highest welding qualifications.
Many employees have been with the company for decades, passing on their skills to new generations of apprentices.
Modern technology plays an important part in the company’s continued success. Weightlifter has always been at the forefront when it comes to adopting and investing in new equipment and manufacturing processes which improve the quality of the finished product.
Laser cut materials designed on the very latest high specification software for by its Engineering team, Weightlifter and PPG invests in the best to ensure its products exceed the expectations of the most demanding customers, from ‘Blue Chip’ operators to owner drivers.
Always flexible in its approach, Weightlifter’s experience and expertise ensures it builds its products to precisely meet the exacting requirements of the industries it serves, whether that be for specialist or standard applications. All of our products are constructed not only to the industry standard and comply with European Whole Vehicle Type Approval, but also meet our own stringent in house quality assurance tests.
Today, Weightlifter and PPG have probably the widest and most comprehensive range of tipping semi-trailers, rigid bodies, walking floors and ancillary equipment on the market.
